National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 30 marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We invite you to pause to honour the Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and hold space for the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history. Truth and Reconciliation is not only about remembering the past. It is about what we do with that knowledge today. It is about listening to Indigenous voices, learning the truths of this land, building meaningful relationships, and taking action in our communities. As Treaty people, we each have a role to play. Whether that looks like attending a community event, reading a Survivor's story, having a conversation with family, or spending time reflecting on what reconciliation means in your own life, every step matters. We invite you to pause, learn, reflect, and remember: Read and reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action and consider how you can support them in your personal and professional life. These natural supports are an important part of our communities’ networks of care. Over the next few months, STOPS to Violence is bringing people together across Saskatchewan to explore how communities and service systems can better recognize and strengthen these relationships as part of violence prevention. There’s More to a Community Than Its Services

Who notices when someone is struggling? Who checks in, offers a ride or stays alongside them through a difficult time? Often, it’s the people already in their life. Friends, family, neighbours and other natural supports help build belonging, prevent violence and connect people with help when they need it. Gender-Based Violence in a Migration and Refugee Context: Forms, Impacts, Barriers and Responses

This presentation is based on research conducted by a Canadian research team as part of the multi-country, interdisciplinary project, “Violence against Women Migrants and Refugees: Analysing Causes and Effective Policy Response”. The hosts will present their analyses of the two datasets with a focus on GBV forms, impacts and barriers and MRW responses and resilience, amplified by the structural vulnerabilities of the immigration/settlement and anti-violence sectors when it comes to supporting MRW GBV survivors. They draw upon theoretical approaches such as the continuum of violence, intersectionality, social determinants of health, vulnerability, and the social ecology of resilience. Funding to Support Victims and Survivors of Sexual Offences - Victims Fund

The Federal Victims Strategy (FVS) is led by the Department of Justice Canada and seeks to improve access to justice for victims and survivors of crime and give them a more effective voice in the criminal justice system. The Victims Fund, a component of the FVS, provides grants to support projects and activities that encourage the development of new approaches, promote access to justice, strengthen the capacity of service providers, foster the establishment of referral networks, and/or increase awareness of services available to victims and survivors of crime and their families. This call will support projects and activities that: Enhance access to justice for survivors and victims of sexual offences, particularly in relation to the provision of trauma-informed services; Seek to develop and deliver training for criminal justice professionals on laws relating to sexual offences, including recent changes contained in former Bill C-16 (the Protecting Victims Act) such as the new coercive control offence (which will come into force by June 18, 2028); Promote an understanding among criminal justice professionals of how to identify coercive control; and Advance trauma-informed, victim-centred approaches to restorative justice in the context of sexual offences and other instances of serious harm, where feasible and appropriate.

The series is designed to enhance the professional development and capacity of nonprofit professionals through ongoing learning and community-driven research. Participants can take advantage of a variety of complimentary learning experiences aimed at equipping nonprofit professionals with the skills and knowledge to thrive in today’s ever-changing landscape. |
