REAL Talk: Building Confidence to Support Others

Have you ever wondered how to help someone who may be struggling in a difficult relationship, but weren't sure what to say or do?

REAL Talk offered by Sagesse is a practical and engaging education session that helps people build the confidence and skills to support others who may be experiencing or using violence in their relationships. Grounded in the belief that one supportive conversation can make a difference, REAL Talk offers simple tools that can be used in everyday life.

REAL Talk is designed for anyone who wants to strengthen their ability to support family members, friends, neighbours, colleagues, and community members.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognize signs of harm and abuse

  • Empathize with another person's experience

  • Ask caring questions that open conversation

  • Listen without judgment

CIF Community Grant Program

The Community Grant Program is now open! Applications are being accepted through the Grant Portal until October 1 at 4:00 p.m.

The CIF Community Grant Program provides funding support to a wide range of programs and services under three funding themes:

Healthy Growth and Development of Children and Youth: supporting childhood development programs and services that provide young children with a good start in life and prepare youth for the future. Particularly programs and services that reduce barriers and enhance accessibility for young people.

Individual and Community Wellbeing: supporting programs for all ages that support healthy lifestyles, supportive and inclusive communities, and provide access to programs and services.

Nonprofit and Community Leadership: supporting initiatives that strengthen the knowledge and skills of nonprofit board members to effectively govern; nonprofit program delivery staff have knowledge & skills that benefit the participants of the nonprofit’s program and services; and volunteers to become community leaders and support nonprofit program delivery, enhancing the ability of nonprofits to achieve their mission and have a positive impact on community.

The maximum amount that can be applied for is $35,000 for local/regional programs and $50,000 for programs that are provincial in scope.

Prairie Sexuality & Disability Conference 2026

The Prairie Sexuality & Disability Conference brings together self-advocates, people with disabilities, families, caregivers, educators, healthcare professionals, researchers, and community organizations to explore topics related to sexuality, relationships, identity, and human rights. Since its inception in 2022, the conference has created opportunities for learning, connection, and dialogue on subjects that have too often been overlooked, misunderstood, or left out of the conversation altogether.

For many people with disabilities, discussions about sexuality are limited by stigma, discomfort, or misinformation. Yet sexuality is a natural and important part of being human. It includes friendship, relationships, love, intimacy, identity, self-expression, safety, and belonging. The conference was created to make space for honest discussion, thoughtful learning, and the sharing of diverse perspectives and experiences.

Through presentations, workshops, panel discussions, and lived experience perspectives, participants explore practical strategies, emerging research, and real-world experiences that support the rights of people with disabilities to make informed choices about their own lives and relationships.

Dates: November 19-20, 2026

Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM daily (registration opens at 8:00 AM)

The Tort of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Canada: The Supreme Court’s Landmark Ruling in Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, and What it Means for Survivors of IPV

This Webinar was presented and recorded on June 11, 2026.

This webinar looked at the history of the groundbreaking case Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia and considered what the majority decision of the Supreme Court of Canada means for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) in Canada. Designed for non-lawyers, the webinar helped participants understand how the new tort of IPV and the Ahluwalia decision will impact civil and family law cases, and other proceedings in court and beyond.
The panel began with a reflection from Ms. Kuldeep Ahluwalia. It is only through her bravery and persistence that this groundbreaking decision was possible.

Through the Engage project, SCIC continues to empower youth leaders addressing global issues in their communities, while expanding how we work together through true co-ownership. We are creating new spaces for young people to lead, connect, and be heard:

  •  Indigenous Youth Circles: Dedicated spaces for Indigenous youth to gather, share community-based storytelling, grow as leaders, and advance our commitment to genuine co-construction.

  • Global Youth Digital Storytelling Hub: A provincial platform for youth to explore global justice issues through poetry, photography, or podcasting.

  • Leadership & Advocacy: Expanding youth involvement in policy advocacy and supporting a platform that recognizes youth partners as Ambassadors for global cooperation.
